Bull Shoals Tailwater - August 24, 2010
Bull Shoals Dam shut off last night and stayed off 'til noon! The fish are fat and stupid right now, so get over there as soon as you can. They will eat just about anything, but scuds and sowbugs were hot. And about one out of ten fish blew up on my hopper indicator! The schedule says no generation until 2pm, but I'm not sure I believe that. At the least though, it should remain off until around noon again and likely the same for the next several days as the "cold front" passes through. Just start upriver in the...

This just in from Justin F... Todd-- as you know we headed to the white this weekend. The flow and fishing was absolutely spectacular. We floated from White Hole to Rim Shoals on Saturday, which took 10 hours with brutal heat, but the fishing was hot too. The minimal flows allowed us to nymph in 5-6ft water. The fish were hitting natural colored patterns, with the exception of a Ray Charles, and the best patterns of the day were tan and natural San Juan Worms dropping down to an olive Hunchback Scud or blood red midge. Over the course of...

I caught this twenty-two inch brown on Saturday! I floated a stretch of the White with guide Marc Poulos in his drift boat. I hooked it on a size 16 Copper John while sporting my lucky McLellan’s fishing hat! Benny Thanks for the report, Benny, and congrats on a nice brown!
Bull Shoals Tailwater - July 7, 2010
Elizabeth with a NICE Bull Shoals brown trout! With all of the recent low water below Bull Shoals Dam and Norfork Dam, the trout fishing has been absolutely spectacular! We’ve received many reports of one-hundred-plus fish days, including several quality browns, rainbows and cutthroats! The usual scuds, sow bugs and midges are all working well, but also have a good selection of mayfly nymphs and dries, as there are still some sulfurs flying around. Hare’s Ears, Pheasant Tails, Mighty Mays, Skip Nymphs, and Parachute Sulfurs are all good flies to try. Also, try fishing soft hackles like a Partridge and...
Bull Shoals Tailwater - June 22, 2010
The Sulfur Mayfly hatch is in full swing on the White River, with the bugs coming off the water in big, yellow clouds! They are still releasing lots of water from Bull Shoals Dam, so to fish the hatch, line up your boat tight to the bank and cast to rising fish in the eddies and slower current seams along the edges of the river. However, be sure to pay attention! Especially watching fish rise to dry flies, it’s easy to get tunnel-vision and forget to watch downstream for sweepers and other obstructions! Nice fish, Bob! Thanks for the pic!
