Norfork Tailwater - September 14, 2010

One of many doubles! Thursday, I fished with country singer Luke Bryan and songwriter Dallas Davidson on the Norfork in the pouring rain. I met their tour bus in Mountain Home, and even though it had been dumping rain all night, we decided to take our chances and try to find some clean water to fish somewhere. I was less than optimistic, but these guys had made a special detour on their way from playing Oxford, Mississippi Wednesday night to their show in Fayetteville Thursday night to fish the White River system, so we decided to give it a shot. While Luke and Dallas did write the song Rain is a Good Thing, as Dallas pointed out, they didn't write Too Much Rain is a Good Thing! Luke and Dallas with some nice Norfork browns! Norfork was off, but the river was muddy from all of the run-off, so we couldn't put the drift boat in; however, the first couple of shoals below the dam were stained but not completely blown out yet, so we rigged up with San Juan worms and scud trailers, and Luke and Dallas proceeded to hook one trout after another, with several double hook-ups! Dallas with a big brown! The fishing was great until about two that afternoon, when even the uppermost shoal was too muddy to fish, but at that point the guys had landed dozens of fat rainbows, several big browns, a couple of cutthroats, and even one brookie to make a grand slam! These guys are definitely hardcore fly fishers: They played a concert in Oxford Wednesday night, drove all night to Mountain Home, fished hard all day in the pouring rain, and didn't stop for lunch. Then we loaded up in my Suburban, drove the three hours back to Fayetteville, and rolled into the AMP about two hours before Luke had to go on stage! Oh yeah, and Friday night--the very next night--they had a show in Tuscaloosa, Alabama! I'm impressed! Thanks again guys for a great day of fishing and a great concert! Michael
